For this feature, we spoke with Fallon Chase, CPHR, Founder of Chase & Co. HR. With more than a decade of HR leadership at companies like Dapper Labs, Axiom Zen, ZenHub, and Worley, Fallon now provides fractional HR and people operations support to small businesses across Canada and the U.S.
Fallon founded Chase & Co. HR after seeing firsthand how HR tasks were overwhelming small business owners. “No one starts a business because they are dying to handle people issues, write policies, or manage vacation compliance,” she explained. Fractional HR allows founders to stay focused on what they enjoy while still getting expert support when they need it.

Fallon sees AI as the biggest shift on the horizon. “It’s not going away and it’s moving fast. The best move is to simply try to keep up. Follow newsletters, join webinars, try out new tools, and keep learning.” For her, AI can boost efficiency but will never replace the human element that ensures fairness and context. Cost is a constant worry for small businesses. Fallon’s advice is practical: “In a small business, you usually do not need a full 40+ hour week of HR. Fallon puts a premium on responsiveness, organization, and clear communication. “Even a quick note about when a full answer is coming calms people down and builds trust quickly,” she said. She holds a B.Sc. in Psychology and a postgraduate diploma in HR Management from the University of Calgary, and has been a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) since 2019. Fallon describes her superpower as “getting things done quickly without cutting corners,” whether that means setting up new HR systems, solving complex people issues, or giving founders back their time.
